Shiny new server and restart after break
7 September 2010 - 12:48:17am After great response in 2007-2009 with more than 200 users creating about 2500 individual records for persons related to Kulshreshtha family, the website pretty much remained stale in the last couple of years. May be it was to do with us having our daughter, that kept me busy, or may be the initial enthusiasm of the early adopters died. The site also had technical difficulties with the database setup, and I did not have enough time to maintain it. Anyway. We now have an upgraded server, which should improve the uptime and response time. The software version is upgraded (includes a much nicer family tree browser, google maps, charts for stats, etc). The website should be usable again. Please let me know, if you notice a problem. Please login to vansham.com with your username and password. Please let me know, if you have forgotten your username and you can't find it in your mails. Please also take some time to find yourself as individual on vansham.com. There is a search box on top right corner. Please update your profile http://vansham.com/kulshreshtha/edituser.php and enter your id in "Pedigree Chart Root Person". The id looks like I123. It should be in the INDI column in search results, or in bracket next to your name in the individual page. Let's create our family tree with as many individuals as possible. Please respect privacy of others and do not enter incorrect or unnecessary information. If any of you would like to extend the tree to other non-kulshreshtha families, please let me know, and I can create another tree for you.
Kulshreshtha Family Tree
6 September 2010 - 10:46:22pm Kulshreshtha community is a small and very closely knit due to caste endogamy. It is almost impossible that two Kulshreshthas are not somehow related to each other. When we meet in social gatherings or marriages, or seek marriage proposals, lot of us like to know, how two of us are related. Often, we also find a relative, who is a database of relatives in mind. They can figure out relations in a ziffy. As we migrate over longer distances for work, and become broad-minded to not care enough about our relations etc, I feel that soon we will have no one to tell us, how two of us are related. http://vansham.com is an effort to record all the relations in the electronic database. So that the information does not get lost in time. This effort is useless without the support and input from you. Data inetgrity and security are concerns for the information on internet. This site gathers all the information securely with access control, and keeps it safe, so that it does not get beyond close relatives. Please visit http://vansham.com and register yourself, then add your family details, talk to elders and the relatives that are human databases of relations, gather as much family history as you can. I hope, together we can create this massive database of our family history and relations.
